YES WE DID!

I was looking for a really inspiring picture of Barack Obama as, with utmost faith, I prepared this post the night before Election Day. And then I realized that wasn't what belongs here.

Yes, he won the election.
Yes, he inspired people (including me) to an extraordinary extent.

But it was more than that.
Foolishly, the Republicans derided him
for being a community organizer.
Very foolish.
The community was organized
and it was the community
one person at a time
one neighbor at a time
that won this election.

"You and I together
will change this country
will change the world."

I've long thought that one of the most powerful things Barack Obama ever said, from very early one was: "We are the change that we seek." And I do believe that Obama's supporters have been changed by being part of this process. We have seen that we CAN make a difference. We can believe in something and we can work for it, we can work together, and we CAN make a difference.

We DID make a difference.

And together
we are already changing this country
and we are already changing the world.

I feel so good knowing that my vote was a part of the votes that made history tonight. Change has been something of a theme for my life this year, and I am glad that it is something that is going to be continuing in this way.

So you voted for "change" and for "hope" and for "yes we can" and for "a different path" but, what does any of that really mean when it comes down to policies? I bet 70% of the people that voted for Obama have no idea. Obama said last night "we can get there." Where is "there" and how the heck are we going to get "there?" All I know is that I'll be holding my pocketbook pretty tight. Just my two cents as a token republican in the D/s community.

buttercup -
you dont need to hold your pocketbook tight just because hes black.

I just wonder why through the whole campaign "Race is not an issue" but now it's HISTORICAL! Hmm, would have been either way.

Buttercup - I'll be holding mine tightly also and like you (I'm guessing) it'll be because someone's got to foot the bill for all the upcoming socialism. With so many getting a free ride - that means those already paying taxes will just be paying more. You. And Me.

Wouldn't it be truly awesome if only people who actually paid taxes got to vote? I wonder how it would have turned out.

Oh! And I'm the other republican in the D/s community. You know there are only a few of us.

OK, folks... let's all just take a deep breath...

the campaign is over.
the new administration has not yet begun.
let's wait and see...

and if you don't play nice i'll close comments to this post, which would be sad. we need to focus on working together and making this country, this world, a place in which we can all live and love in health and peace and liberty.

Kitten,

I wouldn't have adressed 2nd anonymous, but the comment was uncalled for and as far as I can see he was the only rude comment in the bunch..And his or her kind of comment causes the hate to go on..So please don't be upset with me,I meant well.

Everyone may mean well. But we must learn to stop and hold our tongues and turn the angry word aside. Each time we answer back with another barb, we invite another one in return.

Enough.
